Alaska Airlines Launches Flights to Costa Rica — Routes & Fares

Alaska Airlines is expanding its Los Angeles route network this fall with new service to Costa Rica’s two primary international airports. Beginning Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, the carrier will offer eight weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José (SJO) and Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia/Guanacaste (LIR).

“Costa Rica is the most popular Central American destination for U.S. travelers, known for eco-tourism, surfing and sport fishing. It’s been a top request from our customers who seek outdoor adventure,” said John Kirby, vice president of capacity planning for Alaska Airlines.

In addition to the Costa Rica service, Alaska will add daily flights to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) this fall. The new BWI service gives travelers improved access to the Washington, D.C., region and complements Alaska’s existing daily nonstop flights to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

The new routes will be operated with fuel-efficient, next-generation Boeing 737 aircraft. Travelers departing from Los Angeles will benefit from enhanced connectivity: Alaska will provide connections to 21 destinations from LAX as part of its roughly 600 weekly flights, and customers can earn and redeem award miles through Alaska’s partner network. That partnership enables access to 84 nonstop destinations via carriers including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air France, Aeromexico, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Fiji Airways, KLM, Korean Air, LATAM and Qantas.
