Airbus has unveiled its new Airspace by Airbus cabin concept, designed to elevate the passenger experience while improving airline performance. The brand centers on four key dimensions: comfort, ambience, service and design, with the goal of delivering a modern, consistent cabin environment across aircraft families.
The refreshed interior introduces several passenger-focused enhancements. Seats are wider and configured to create a roomier feel, under-seat areas have been optimized to provide more legroom and storage, and larger overhead bins improve luggage stowage. Lighting has been softened and refined to create a calmer ambience throughout the cabin, and 3D displays are integrated to enhance inflight information and entertainment. Restrooms are larger and employ self-cleaning features with antibacterial surfaces to support hygiene and passenger wellbeing.
Airbus plans to introduce the Airspace cabin on select airline customers when the design enters commercial service in late 2017. Initial installations will appear on the widebody A330neo (new engine option) and the A350 XWB, offering airlines a modern interior that can be tailored to their brand identity. Early launch customers include Delta, Garuda Indonesia and AirAsia.
“The A380 already offers the best comfort of any aircraft, and the A320 is the top in its single-aisle category,” said Kiran Rao, executive vice president of marketing & strategy at Airbus. “Airspace is another step forward, reflecting our decision to bring consistency on our two best-selling widebody aircraft: the A350 XWB and A330neo.”
Rao added that signature details and iconic design elements will enhance passenger enjoyment while providing a flexible canvas for airlines to express their own brand. The Airspace cabin aims to balance passenger comfort and operational efficiency, giving carriers a contemporary interior package that supports service, design and overall customer satisfaction.
