Afro-Latino Travels Host Kim Haas Leads Exclusive Guatemala Tour

The hit television series Afro-Latino Travels with Kim Haas is preparing to return for a third season, and host and executive producer Kim Haas will lead a small-group journey through Guatemala from May 23 to 31 to mark the occasion.

The itinerary highlights Antigua’s charming cobblestone streets and the dramatic shores of Lake Atitlán. Travelers will discover the region’s rich cultural tapestry, sampling local art, music and cuisine while engaging with Afro-descendant and Indigenous communities whose traditions remain vibrant today. The program includes meaningful encounters with Antigua’s Garifuna community—an Afro-Caribbean people of West African and Indigenous heritage—and Mayan communities around Lake Atitlán, who preserve ancestral languages, spiritual practices and cultural traditions passed down through generations.

“The goal of all our Afro-Latino Tours is to travel in a way that uplifts the communities we visit. The Garifuna and Mayan peoples hold histories that deserve to be heard, celebrated, and protected,” said Kim Haas. “Through travel, we can help amplify those voices and create deeper, more meaningful connections.”

Accommodations on the tour are in carefully selected boutique hotels, chosen for comfort and local character.

Highlights of the eight-day, seven-night Roots & Rhythms of Guatemala itinerary include:

  • A welcome dinner with live music held inside a striking stone cave
  • A guided walking tour of Antigua’s colonial center, exploring cobblestone streets, historic churches and bustling marketplaces
  • A flower dye workshop that teaches how to create color and texture from natural botanicals
