ABU DHABI
Whether you are traveling for business or leisure, Abu Dhabi offers a unique blend of luxury and desert charm along the shores of the Persian Gulf. With nearly 250 miles of coastline, over 200 natural islands, and a modern skyline, the emirate provides a broad range of experiences. Go camel trekking across soft white dunes, learn about traditional falconry, admire one of the world’s largest and most beautiful mosques, and explore vibrant souks for authentic shopping.
GETTING THERE
Visitors from many countries, including the United States, can obtain a free entry visa on arrival at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), which is about 24 miles southeast of downtown Abu Dhabi. Taxis are readily available outside the terminal, with typical fares starting around $30 to the city. Female passengers and boys under 10 can opt for women-driven pink taxis at the same fares. Public buses also connect the airport to the city—route 901 runs roughly every 40 minutes around the clock, and a one-way ticket costs about $1. Airline passengers in first or business class may have access to complimentary limousine service to and from the airport through some carriers.
GETTING AROUND
Within the city, taxis are convenient and metered. Daytime flag fares start at about $1 and increase roughly $0.30 per half-mile; late-night rates have a slightly higher minimum and per-mile charge. Abu Dhabi also operates a modern, air-conditioned bus network that reaches most neighborhoods and attractions. If you expect to use public buses frequently, consider purchasing a day pass for around $1 or a monthly pass for approximately $10.90 for better value and easy transfers.
