Norwegian Air Adds New U.S. Routes: What Travelers Need to Know

Norwegian Air has announced four new nonstop routes linking the United States and Europe, expanding its transatlantic network and offering more affordable options for travelers.

The new services include nonstop flights from New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX) to Madrid (MAD); New York (JFK) to Amsterdam (AMS); and Los Angeles (LAX) to Milan (MXP). With these additions, Norwegian becomes the only carrier to offer year‑round nonstop service between Los Angeles and both Madrid and Milan.

To support the increased operations out of Los Angeles, Norwegian will open its fourth U.S. crew base and hire approximately 150 cabin crew members. This investment in local staffing will help maintain reliable service and a consistent onboard experience.

Bjørn Kjos, CEO of Norwegian Air, commented that 2017 brought significant expansion in the United States and that the airline intends to continue growing in the coming year. He emphasized the company’s focus on making major European cities more affordable and accessible for American travelers while maintaining a high-quality onboard product.

The new route schedule is as follows: New York (JFK) to Amsterdam (AMS) begins May 7 with four weekly flights; Los Angeles (LAX) to Milan (MXP) begins June 18 with four weekly flights; Los Angeles (LAX) to Madrid (MAD) begins July 16 with four weekly flights; and New York (JFK) to Madrid (MAD) begins July 18 with three weekly flights. Frequencies and start dates provide travelers with seasonal and year‑round options depending on the route.

Looking ahead, Norwegian may further increase its U.S.–U.K. footprint. The airline is set to acquire 28 weekly slots at London Gatwick Airport starting in summer 2018, which could lead to expanded service between the United States and Gatwick.

These new routes reflect Norwegian’s strategy of expanding low‑fare transatlantic connections while investing in local infrastructure and crew to support reliable operations. Travelers interested in these flights should check Norwegian’s official channels for booking details, exact schedules, and any updates to frequencies.
