Car-rental company Hertz has partnered with airport security provider Clear to offer a faster checkout experience for premium customers.
Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members who enroll in Clear can link their accounts and use Clear’s facial recognition portals to identify themselves and drive away with their rental vehicles. The process lets drivers pull up to a Clear portal while remaining in the car for a quick facial scan.
The partnership is designed to significantly speed the checkout process; Hertz reports the new option can complete identification in less than 30 seconds.
The program is currently operating at Hertz’s rental car center at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Hertz plans to expand the service to approximately 40 additional locations in 2019, including Los Angeles International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and San Francisco International Airport.
Clear is offering Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members a trial membership ranging from one to four months depending on their Hertz status, and a reduced Clear membership rate of $129 for ongoing access.
