Aeromexico has expanded its network from its primary hub at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) with two new destinations in the United States: Ontario, California (ONT) and Sacramento, California (SMF). The new services began this month and will strengthen connectivity between central Mexico and California’s Inland Empire and state capital regions.
Service to Ontario is scheduled four times per week, while flights to Sacramento will operate three times weekly. Both routes are flown using Boeing 737 aircraft, with the cabin offering 12 seats in Clase Premier for passengers who prefer a premium experience. The use of Boeing 737 equipment ensures a consistent onboard product across these short- to medium-haul routes.
According to Anko Van der Werff, Aeromexico’s chief revenue officer, “The addition of these routes increases our presence in the U.S. market and brings our total number of routes between Mexico and the United States to 29. This expansion reinforces Aeromexico’s position as an airline offering a broad range of options for travelers flying between the two countries.”
These new MEX–ONT and MEX–SMF services complement existing flights the carrier already operates from Guadalajara (GDL) to California. Aeromexico currently serves Sacramento from Guadalajara five times per week and Ontario four times per week, meaning passengers in Mexico will have more choices and greater flexibility when planning travel to and from these Californian destinations.
The new routes support both leisure and business travel demands. Ontario’s location provides convenient access to the Inland Empire and is often preferred by travelers seeking alternatives to busier Los Angeles-area airports. Sacramento, as the state capital, attracts government, institutional and corporate visitors as well as leisure travelers exploring Northern California and the Sierra Nevada region.
By increasing frequencies and adding direct connections from Mexico City, Aeromexico aims to make travel more convenient for passengers connecting through its central hub. The expanded schedule offers more options for same-day round trips and improved connectivity to onward domestic and international flights from MEX.
Both routes will follow Aeromexico’s standard operating procedures regarding baggage, boarding and onboard services. Clase Premier passengers can expect premium amenities consistent with the carrier’s product on similar short-haul Boeing 737 services. Economy-class passengers will continue to receive the airline’s regular service offering for these sectors.
These additions reflect Aeromexico’s broader strategy to strengthen its transborder network and provide travelers with a wider array of nonstop options between Mexico and the United States. With 29 total routes linking the two countries, the airline is positioning itself as a key operator for passengers seeking reliable, frequent air service across North America.
Travelers interested in these routes should check Aeromexico’s official schedule for days and times of operation, availability and fare options. Flight schedules are subject to seasonal adjustments and regulatory approvals, and travelers are advised to confirm details prior to booking.
