Before development and golf courses changed the landscape, Punta Mita was a quiet fishing village known mainly to surfers. In the late 1990s the developer DINE transformed this Nayarit peninsula into one of Mexico’s most acclaimed private resort communities. Today it spans roughly 1,500 acres along Banderas Bay and offers sweeping views of the protected Marietas Islands offshore.
Rather than dividing into rigid neighborhoods, Punta Mita unfolds as a network of residential enclaves nestled among golf courses, beach clubs and two of Mexico’s finest luxury resorts: Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort.

At the peninsula’s tip, La Punta Estates features custom oceanfront homes within walking distance of three notable surf breaks, including El Faro, a long right-hand point that can peel for thousands of feet on the right swell. Nearby Porta Fortuna centers around Sufi Ocean Club, which offers a saltwater pool and direct bay access at Punta Mita Pier. Adjacent Sufi Restaurant serves Mediterranean-Mexican fusion with beachfront views.
Hacienda de Mita is the only community inside the resort gates with beachfront condominiums, fronting a longboard wave on the bay. Las Marietas comprises just 42 residences beside the 18th hole of the Bahía Golf Course and sits steps from Mita Mary, The St. Regis’s seafood restaurant on the sand. Across the resort, Chef Richard Sandoval leads the kitchen at Bahía at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, one of the area’s most celebrated dining destinations.

On the north coast, Iyari Estates and Villas—designed by architect Jaime Barba—perch above a private beach reserved for residents and their guests. Pacifico Beach Club, a longtime community hub, offers two pools, a restaurant and the Navi Spa. The newer Kupuri Beach Club focuses on ocean activities such as paddleboarding, sailing and snorkeling, and includes a kids’ club and Kupuri Restaurant.
Punta Mita’s calendar is lively with seasonal events that unite residents and visitors: the Gourmet & Golf Festival, the International Jazz Festival and the Pacific Cup International Amateur Tournament. Just beyond the resort gate, Corral del Risco preserves the area’s original fishing-village character with beachfront restaurants, surf schools and a more casual atmosphere that makes for a pleasant afternoon exploring local life.
