21c Museum Hotels has opened a new property in downtown St. Louis. Like other 21c locations, 21c Museum Hotel St. Louis blends hospitality and contemporary art, creating a welcoming place where travelers and locals can engage with rotating exhibitions, community programs, and food and beverage offerings that encourage conversation and connection.
The hotel is a careful renovation of a 95-year-old, 10-story Renaissance Revival–style YMCA building. Architects preserved the historic character while adapting the space to modern needs, resulting in a property that honors its past while serving present-day cultural and hospitality purposes.

The converted YMCA now houses more than 14,000 square feet of museum exhibition space featuring site-specific installations and rotating curated shows, alongside 173 rooms furnished with original artworks by artists connected to Missouri. Two signature 21c suites elevate the experience with contemporary art, double-height windows overlooking downtown St. Louis, separate living and dining areas, a kitchenette, and an upper-level fitness loft equipped with Peloton, TechnoGym, and Forme Mirror amenities.
Fitness and wellness are central to the property. Locust Street Athletic and Swim Club occupies roughly 10,500 square feet and is available to hotel guests and local members. The club features a restored historic lap pool, hot tub, locker rooms, fitness center and studios, steam and sauna facilities, and two spa treatment rooms. Historic spaces such as the former gymnasium and running track have been repurposed into art-filled meeting and event venues with modern AV systems to support museum programming and private events.

The culinary program, led by Chef Matthew Daughaday, includes two outlets: Idol Wolf and Good Press. Idol Wolf draws on local, seasonal ingredients and Iberian influences to offer a Spanish-inspired shared dining and drinking experience. Pintxos and tapas-style small plates form the foundation of the menu, complemented by larger dishes inspired by Northern Spanish paellas, seafood, and stews. The beverage program includes an extensive selection of spirits, both classic and contemporary cocktails, thoughtfully designed zero-proof options, and a global wine list. Idol Wolf accommodates more than 100 guests with indoor and outdoor seating, plus a 14-person private dining room, lounge, bar, and billiards room.
Good Press focuses on showcasing St. Louis roasters, growers, and purveyors, using local names such as Big Heart Tea and Northwest Coffee. The café offers quality coffee and classic café fare for guests looking for a quick morning pick-me-up or a comfortable spot to work or relax in the afternoon.

Open 24/7 and free to the public, the hotel’s museum galleries span 14,000 square feet and will present curated exhibitions and installations created specifically for the St. Louis location. Notable site-specific works include O by Serkan Özkaya, a spherical orb filled with distilled water that alters and magnifies its surroundings, and Fallen Fruit, a collaborative project by David Allen Burns and Austin Young.
21c Museum Hotel St. Louis aims to be a cultural hub in the city, combining accessible contemporary art with hospitality, dining, and wellness amenities that invite both visitors and residents to gather, explore, and reconnect.
