Arrival/Check-In: My colleague and I arrived at The Mira on a busy Wednesday afternoon. Several attentive doormen helped us across the one-way street, assisted with luggage and escorted us inside. Only a few guests were ahead of us at check-in, giving me a moment to take in the distinctive lobby. The large space is finished in black-and-white marble, creating a modern atmosphere in a windowless room. After a short wait we were checked in and directed to the elevator bank. Each floor is color-coordinated to its room scheme and foyer, which makes it easy to recognize your floor at a glance.
Guest Quarters: My room overlooked Kowloon Park and the bustling street below. The décor featured a red accent theme—seen in the quilt on the king-sized bed, a club chair by the window and a contemporary rug—which contrasted nicely with dark burl wood flooring and cabinetry. The desk spanned an entire wall, offering ample space for a laptop, papers and personal items. It included multiple lighting options, convenient electrical outlets and a “My Mobile” Nokia handset for hotel services and local assistance.
The bathroom was separated from the bedroom by a glass wall, which enhanced the sense of space. A deep freestanding bathtub invited relaxation, while the glass-enclosed shower delivered strong water pressure. The double vanity provided plenty of counter space and a selection of Aromatherapy products. A mirror above the sink housed a secondary television screen visible from both the tub and the shower.
Services / Amenities: The Mira is a 492-room hotel with five restaurants ranging from casual cafés to upscale dining. The COCO café offers an appealing selection of designer cakes, pastries and coffee—items I enjoyed each morning—and accepts special orders, which can be useful for meetings or gifts. The lower levels contain several meeting rooms with complimentary WiFi, hotel catering and event support. The MiraSpa is a full-service facility featuring massage treatments, a hair salon and an impressive indoor infinity-edge pool accessible to guests. The spa area also houses a well-equipped fitness center with ample cardio machines and weight benches, busy during morning and evening peaks but able to accommodate guests comfortably. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the hotel.
The Experience: Located on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, The Mira sits in the heart of Hong Kong’s commercial, shopping, dining and entertainment districts. It is within walking distance of MTR stations and the Star Ferry, making it convenient for both business and leisure travelers. The central location allows easy access to city attractions while providing excellent on-site dining options. My only negative was an unexpected discovery of an unused paintbrush in the bed beneath the sheets; it seemed to be an oversight by housekeeping and was disappointing given otherwise attentive service.
