MICE Events in Guadalajara: Venues, Conferences & Meetings

Mexico’s second-largest city blends deep historical roots with a rapidly growing role as a business and innovation center. Guadalajara is increasingly recognized as a tech and corporate hub—often dubbed “Mexico’s Silicon Valley”—which helps explain why international meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions are choosing the city more often.

Business expansion in Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco, has been notable in recent years. Since 2014, nearly 300 startups in the region have attracted roughly $120 million in investment, and major multinational companies such as HP, Dell, Oracle and IBM operate locally. That corporate presence, combined with talent from the state’s 12 universities, makes Guadalajara an attractive option for a wide range of business events.

Local industry leaders and destination managers emphasize Guadalajara’s rise on the global meetings map. Jaime Nelo of IVI DMC2, which runs meetings and incentive programs in Guadalajara and across Mexico, notes that Mexican cities are gaining attention from international meeting planners and that the country’s business and colonial centers are becoming increasingly attractive for events.

Expo Guadalajara anchors the city’s meetings infrastructure. Covering more than 1.2 million square feet, it is the region’s largest venue for conferences, trade shows and events, and is frequently cited as a key reason global groups select the city. Martha Paredes, director of sales at InterContinental Presidente Guadalajara, calls the destination “a very strong business market,” thanks to the presence of the tech sector and substantial event facilities.

Hotel development has kept pace with demand. Boutique properties and international brands have been adding capacity and meeting space. Recent openings include Casa Fayette, a 37-room Design Hotels member, and Solar de las Ánimas, a 93-room Relais & Châteaux property in nearby Tequila—both attractive for incentive groups seeking distinctive stays.

Newer additions to the market expand options for meetings. The NH Collection Guadalajara Centro Histórico, located in the historic center, offers 142 rooms, a rooftop restaurant with private dining, and eight meeting rooms with a combined capacity of about 475 guests. The AC Guadalajara Mexico, a 175-room hotel operated by Marriott, features an outdoor pool deck, fitness center, library and multiple lounge areas, catering to business travelers and groups.

Upcoming inventory will further boost capacity: a Hyatt Regency at the Andares development is slated to open with 255 rooms and roughly 29,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, enhancing the city’s ability to host larger conferences and corporate gatherings.

Beyond modern facilities, Guadalajara’s historic center and cultural landmarks provide distinctive venues for events. Fernanda Martinez of the Guadalajara Convention and Visitors Bureau highlights the city’s cosmopolitan character and its role as the birthplace of iconic Mexican traditions—tequila, mariachi and regional cuisine. Visitors appreciate the colonial architecture, artisan crafts from nearby Tlaquepaque and Tonalá, and easy access to nearby attractions like the town of Tequila and Lake Chapala.

Special event planners often use landmark sites to create memorable experiences. Companies such as IVI DMC2 arrange private functions at elegant locations like the 19th-century Degollado Theater and the Neoclassical Hospicio Cabañas, a UNESCO World Heritage site that houses notable murals by José Clemente Orozco and offers multiple spaces for group events.

The town of Tequila, with its historic distilleries, is a popular incentive destination. Groups can reach it by options that include helicopter service from Guadalajara’s airport or themed rail experiences, and venues like Mundo Cuervo provide private tastings, tours and meeting spaces tailored to corporate groups.

With a growing mix of convention infrastructure, hotel inventory and unique cultural venues, Guadalajara offers meeting planners a versatile destination that combines business capability with authentic Mexican character. For corporate events, incentives and conventions, the city delivers both practical resources and local flavor that leave lasting impressions on attendees.
