Kor Group, an international real estate investment and management firm, has announced the start of construction for the new luxury lifestyle property, Santa Monica Proper. Managed and branded by Proper Hospitality, the hotel is scheduled to open in winter 2018/2019.
Located just blocks from the Pacific Ocean in downtown Santa Monica, the 271-room hotel will combine historic charm with contemporary design. The project includes interior design by Kelly Wearstler, dining concepts from respected local chefs, a rooftop lounge and swimming pool, 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.
“We are thrilled to build a special luxury lifestyle property right in our own backyard with the ideal partners, Alex Gorby and Goldman, Sachs & Co.,” said Brian De Lowe, president and co-founder of Proper Hospitality and partner at The Kor Group. “Like our other flagship Proper-branded hotels in Hollywood, San Francisco, Downtown L.A. and Austin, Santa Monica Proper will deliver a high-end boutique experience to one of the country’s most creative and desirable cities.”
The development renovates an original 1928 six-story Spanish Colonial Revival building while adding a new seven-story modern structure, blending classic architecture with contemporary elements. Once complete, Santa Monica Proper will serve as a central lifestyle destination in downtown Santa Monica, catering to business, entertainment, leisure, retail, innovation, and technology communities.
