D.C. Hotel Unveils First Amendment–Inspired Signature Suite

Hamilton Hotel Washington, D.C. has partnered with the Newseum to unveil a new signature suite called The Newsroom: Rise Up. The suite honors the Newseum’s “Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement” exhibit, created to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn protests. Actor and activist Alan Cumming contributed to the curation of artifacts and images featured in the suite.

Located on the hotel’s 12th floor, The Newsroom: Rise Up presents a curated timeline of front-page news stories chronicling five decades of the gay rights movement. The suite displays select artifacts, such as a souvenir program from the 1982 Gay Athletic Games, the script from the 1997 episode of Ellen in which the character Ellen Morgan came out as a lesbian, and the album cover of the Village People’s “Macho Man.”

Guests staying in the suite also receive access to the Newseum’s “Today’s Front Pages” feature, a digital gallery showcasing front pages from more than 800 newspapers worldwide. An augmented reality app provides an interactive digital coffee-table book of Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs. Additional welcome amenities include discounted tickets to select Newseum events and a gift bag containing Newseum keepsakes.

“The Newseum is dedicated to telling the stories of ordinary people using the power of the press and the freedoms of the First Amendment to effect change, and our exhibit on the LGBTQ community is one we are excited to share. We’re so pleased that Hamilton Hotel is helping support our mission, which is so vital today,” said Carrie Christoffersen, executive director and curator of the Newseum.
