American Express Launches Redesigned Gold Card with New Benefits

American Express has introduced an updated version of its Premier Rewards Gold Card, now called the American Express Gold Card. The redesigned card emphasizes dining and travel benefits, delivering enhanced rewards and credits for everyday food purchases and trips.

“We designed the new Gold Card to reward our card members’ growing appetites for dining out, eating in and traveling near and far,” said Rachel Stocks, executive vice president of global premium products and benefits at American Express. The company focused the product enhancements on dining and travel, adding a dining credit and expanded points-earning on restaurants and supermarkets to give members more value where they spend most.

Cardholders now earn 4X Membership Rewards points at U.S. restaurants and on U.S. supermarket purchases, with supermarket rewards capped at $25,000 in purchases per year. This doubles the previous earning rate for those categories. In addition, the card includes a $120 annual dining credit, delivered as up to $10 per month when members use participating restaurants and services such as Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Grubhub or Seamless.

Travel benefits are preserved and expanded. Cardmembers receive a Travel Collection membership through Travel Leaders Group, which provides access to curated travel amenities and discounted rates. Other retained travel perks include 3X points on flights booked directly with airlines or on amextravel.com, a $100 annual airline fee credit toward incidental airline charges, a $75 hotel credit for qualifying stays within The Hotel Collection, and personalized travel support.

The Gold Card also debuts a refreshed look, including a limited-edition rose gold version available for a short time.

For a limited period, new cardmembers can take advantage of introductory offers. Through the promotional window, members receive 20% back in statement credits on dining purchases at U.S. restaurants (up to $100 per account) during the first three months. New cardholders can also earn a welcome bonus of 25,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first three months.

Overall, the revamped American Express Gold Card focuses on strengthened rewards for dining and grocery spending, plus meaningful travel benefits and credits, making it a strong option for cardholders who prioritize food and travel.
