Travelers heading to Thailand will be relieved to learn that curfews have been officially lifted in several major tourist destinations. Phuket, Koh Samui, Pattaya, Cha Am, Hua Hin, Krabi, Phang Nga, Hat Yai, Koh Phangan and Koh Chang have returned to normal operations, with businesses and services open as usual.
While curfew restrictions were imposed nationwide after martial law was declared on May 20, measures have been eased in many coastal and resort areas. Curfew remains in force in Bangkok and certain other provinces, but has been relaxed by one hour and now runs from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.
Airport transfers are allowed during curfew hours. Travelers should carry valid travel documents and be prepared to present them if requested by authorities. Under Thai law, all visitors are required to have an official form of identification on their person at all times.
Public transportation services continue to operate on regular schedules in most areas. The BTS Skytrain, MRT Subway and Airport Rail Link are running daily from 6 a.m. until midnight, providing convenient connections for commuters and visitors.
Visitors planning trips to Thailand’s resort towns can expect normal services and open businesses in the listed destinations, while those traveling to Bangkok should remain mindful of the adjusted curfew and identification requirements.
