Amtrak is adding extra trains and seating before and after the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20 in Washington, D.C., to handle increased travel demand.
To accommodate more visitors, Amtrak has expanded capacity on Northeast Regional service from Jan. 20–30 and will operate additional Acela Express and Northeast Regional roundtrips on Jan. 21.
“We’re proud to be able to provide a vital transportation service to this historic event,” said Jason Molfetas, executive vice president, Amtrak. “Our customers who have traveled with us in the past know that there is no better way to get into and out of D.C. during Inauguration week than with Amtrak. Many of the streets into the city will be closed in the days leading up to the Inauguration, and Amtrak takes you right into the heart of the activities. Many of the Inauguration events and festivities are just blocks away from Union Station.”
Amtrak officials said they will closely monitor customer demand and may adjust the operating plan as needed. The company will coordinate with local, state and federal authorities to maintain passenger safety throughout the event period.
Travelers planning to attend the Inauguration are encouraged to check Amtrak’s official information and travel tips on the company website. Plan ahead, allow extra time for security and station access, and consider booking early to secure preferred trains and seats.
