British Airways’ New York JFK to London Heathrow route is the most lucrative single airline route in the world, generating approximately $1.04 billion in annual revenue, according to a new Forbes analysis based on Official Airline Guide data.
Operated roughly 15 times per day, the route contributes about 6% of British Airways’ total revenue and stands out as the top earner among global carrier networks.
Other highest-revenue routes identified in the report include:
Qantas, Melbourne (MEL) to Sydney (SYD): $855 million
Emirates, London Heathrow to Dubai (DXB): $819 million
Singapore Airlines, London Heathrow to Singapore (SIN): $710 million
American Airlines, Los Angeles (LAX) to New York (JFK): $698 million
United Airlines, San Francisco (SFO) to Newark (EWR): $688 million
Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong (HKG) to London Heathrow: $632 million
Qatar Airways, London Heathrow to Doha (DOH): $553 million
Air Canada, Vancouver (YVR) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ): $552 million
Singapore Airlines, Sydney (SYD) to Singapore (SIN): $544 million
Among these routes, Qantas’s Melbourne–Sydney connection is the only short-haul service to make the list, highlighting that most of the top revenue-generating flights are long-haul intercontinental routes.
Forbes points out that despite growth in low-cost carriers worldwide, long-haul business travel continues to be the dominant driver of revenue for major airlines, supporting premium services and frequent schedules on these high-demand corridors.
