One of Seattle’s most popular destinations recently completed a major expansion: a two-year, $74 million project that opens this June.
The MarketFront expansion adds nearly 30,000 square feet of public space and about 300 underground parking stalls to the historic Pike Place Market. Designed to improve access and create new vendor opportunities, the project includes 47 new rooftop stalls where farmers, fishers and artisans can sell their goods directly to visitors.
New permanent tenants and food options enhance the market experience. Shoppers will find a full-service brewery, Old Stove Brewing Company, alongside a seafood restaurant, a specialty chocolatier, Indi Chocolate, and a biscuit café, Honest Biscuits. These additions provide a variety of dining choices while preserving the market’s longtime focus on fresh, local products.
Perched above the Elliott Bay shoreline of Puget Sound, Pike Place Market is a Seattle institution known for its lively outdoor stalls, fresh seafood and scenic views of the water and surrounding mountains. Fishermen bring in the day’s catch and vendors sell produce, flowers and handmade goods, creating an energetic atmosphere that attracts both residents and tourists.
The MarketFront expansion is intended to strengthen the market’s role as a community hub. By increasing vendor capacity and public spaces, the project aims to support small businesses, boost local food access and offer more year-round programming and events. Improved parking and pedestrian connections make the market easier to reach for more visitors.
Visitors to Pike Place Market can expect a blend of historic character and new conveniences. While preserving the market’s iconic features—its busy arcades, fish markets and craft stalls—the expansion provides modern amenities and more space to enjoy the waterfront setting. This balance helps ensure Pike Place Market remains a vibrant part of Seattle’s cultural and economic life for years to come.
