KLM Expands European Network: New Routes and Connections

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has expanded its European network from Amsterdam by adding three new destinations: Turin, Italy (TRN); Bilbao, Spain (BIO); and Zagreb, Croatia (ZAG). The carrier now operates daily flights to Bilbao and Zagreb, and has resumed service to Turin for the first time in a decade. Flights to Turin will be operated twice daily, restoring KLM’s presence in the northwestern Italian city located at the foot of the Alps.

Pieter Elbers, Deputy CEO and COO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, commented on the relaunch: “I’m pleased that after 10 years KLM will once again be flying to Turin under its own flight code. Italy is our fourth most important European market, and adding Turin — KLM’s sixth destination in Italy — further strengthens our position in Europe. Turin is an attractive destination for business travelers, tourists and students.”

The return to Turin reflects KLM’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity across Europe and support passenger demand for both leisure and business travel. Turin combines cultural attractions, strong industry and academic hubs, and convenient access to the Alps, making it a logical choice for increased frequency. Twice-daily service will offer travelers more flexibility and connections via KLM’s Amsterdam hub.

Bilbao and Zagreb are also becoming more firmly linked to KLM’s Amsterdam network. Bilbao, known for the Guggenheim Museum and a growing cultural and culinary scene, will now receive daily service that aims to support tourism and business ties between the Basque Country and the Netherlands. Zagreb, Croatia’s capital, will likewise be served daily, providing consistent, year-round connectivity for travelers seeking Croatia’s cultural, historical and business opportunities.

These additions mean KLM now serves six destinations in Italy, underscoring the airline’s commitment to strengthen its footprint in key European markets. The move follows trends in post-pandemic travel recovery, where airlines restore and expand routes to meet renewed demand for cross-border leisure and corporate travel. By increasing frequencies and reopening routes that had been dormant, KLM seeks to offer more options to passengers while optimizing connections across its European network.

Passengers flying through Amsterdam can benefit from improved schedules and easier transfer options to long-haul flights or other European destinations. The twice-daily Turin service and daily links to Bilbao and Zagreb enhance the utility of KLM’s hub for onward travel and allow better alignment with business hours and tourism itineraries.

For travelers and local economies alike, the reinstatement and addition of these routes are likely to have positive ripple effects. Business travelers will find more convenient itineraries and increased flexibility, while tourism sectors in Turin, Bilbao and Zagreb may see greater visitor flows, supporting hotels, restaurants and cultural venues. Students and academic visitors will also gain from more reliable and frequent connections.

KLM’s network decisions are guided by passenger demand patterns, seasonal considerations and long-term market potential. Reintroducing service to Turin after a 10-year absence indicates confidence in sustained demand and the importance of connecting Italy more comprehensively to the Netherlands and beyond. Likewise, daily services to Bilbao and Zagreb reflect consistent interest in these markets and the value of dependable schedules for travelers.

Overall, the expansion strengthens KLM’s European presence and improves connectivity across several regions. With these additions, passengers can look forward to enhanced travel options, more frequent departures, and strengthened links between Amsterdam and key European cities.
