Etihad Expands Mediterranean Routes with New Flights and Hubs

In response to rising demand, Etihad Airways is expanding its presence in the Mediterranean by increasing frequencies and capacity on routes to Greece and Cyprus. From June 2 the carrier will raise flights between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Athens (ATH) from seven to 10 per week. Service to Larnaca (LCA) will grow from three to five weekly flights starting October 1. To accommodate peak summer travel, Etihad will operate a 254-seat Airbus A330-200 on the Athens route between June 1 and September 30 and will offer daily flights to Larnaca from July 1 through September 30.

The national carrier of the United Arab Emirates expects the enhancements to support both business and leisure traffic through Abu Dhabi. For Athens, the additional frequencies will provide travelers with two different departure times to and from Abu Dhabi, while the extra Larnaca flights will improve overall connectivity, according to Peter Baumgartner, COO of Etihad Airways.
