EasyJet Updates Checked Baggage Rules — What Travelers Need to Know

EasyJet has updated its checked baggage policy, introducing a lighter option and raising the previous 20-kilogram allowance to better match passengers’ needs.

The new 15-kilogram checked bag tier is intended for travelers with lighter luggage and is available exclusively online. Its price starts at £8.99, although fares can reach £29.99 depending on the route. The former 20-kilogram allowance has been increased to 23 kilograms. Booking the 23kg option online costs between £13.99 and £33.99; if purchased at the bag-drop desk the fee is £37, and buying at the boarding gate is £47.

EasyJet says the updated tiers give short-break travelers more flexibility so they no longer have to compress their belongings into a cabin bag, while customers on longer trips benefit from the increased allowance of an extra 3 kilograms for the standard hold bag.

Andrew Middleton, EasyJet’s ancillary revenue director, noted that in the past year nearly half of checked bags weighed 15 kilograms or less, while there were also millions of customers who needed more than the previous 20-kilogram limit. The revised policy is designed to reflect those patterns and offer clearer, more suitable options.

Families and groups can continue to pool their total checked baggage allowance when traveling together, as before.
