Adventures by Disney has launched its first river cruise itineraries in partnership with luxury river line AmaWaterways. The new sailings—four summer departures on the Danube and a special holiday voyage—offer families an active, immersive and hassle-free way to explore Central Europe.
The cruises visit eight ports across four countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. Itineraries are designed to maximize time ashore, with ships arriving early in the morning and departing late at night. In addition to the expert AmaWaterways crew, each departure includes eight Adventures by Disney guides to lead experiences and help families get the most from every stop.
“Celebrating 10 years in family travel, Adventures by Disney continually seeks fresh ways to create unforgettable, effortless vacations for our guests,” said Ken Potrock, senior vice president, Adventures by Disney. “Seeing the growing appeal of river cruising, we teamed with AmaWaterways to deliver immersive, personalized family journeys unlike anything we’ve offered before.”
Guests will sail aboard the 170-passenger AmaViola, a ship outfitted for families with multiple connecting staterooms and several cabins and suites that accommodate three- and four-person families.
The Adventures by Disney departures are scheduled for July 7–14, July 14–21, July 21–28 and July 28–August 4, 2016. Each eight-day, seven-night itinerary blends iconic highlights and local discoveries. Sample experiences include: a guided visit to Mirabell Gardens and a tour of a salt mine in Austria; an evening illuminations cruise in Budapest; a horse show at Lazar Equestrian Park in Hungary; medieval-themed activities at Devin Castle in Bratislava; a private marionette performance and a strudel-making demonstration at Schönbrunn Palace in Austria; a falconry display at Hohenwerfen Castle; a treetop walk at an outdoor adventure center in Kopfing, Germany; and an Oktoberfest-style event at a local German brewery.
Onboard and ashore dining and cultural programs are tailored to families, with themed meals and hands-on culinary activities such as interactive goulash and strudel workshops. Active options are available in every port, including guided bike rides that help families explore each destination at a comfortable pace.
