Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico have launched a new joint cooperation agreement covering transborder flights between the United States and Mexico. First announced in December 2016, the partnership has now completed the regulatory approvals required by the U.S. Department of Transportation and Mexico’s Federal Economic Competition Commission.
Through this joint venture, the two SkyTeam carriers will coordinate schedules and fares, and will jointly market and sell tickets on routes between the U.S. and Mexico. The agreement enables coordinated sales and marketing efforts in both countries and gives customers smoother connections and more consistent service across both airlines.
Both carriers plan to invest in airport facilities to improve the passenger experience on the ground and in the air. Investments will include enhancements to boarding gates and lounge spaces, along with other terminal improvements that support faster transfers and greater comfort for travelers.
A Delta spokesperson said the partnership will allow Delta and Aeromexico to work together to upgrade airport facilities, boarding gates and lounges, and to implement joint sales and marketing initiatives in both countries.
Under the agreement, Delta will continue to provide service from its U.S. hubs—Atlanta (ATL), Detroit (DTW), Los Angeles (LAX), Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP), New York-area airports, Salt Lake City (SLC) and Seattle (SEA). Aeromexico will connect customers through its Mexican hubs in Mexico City (MEX), Monterrey (MTY) and Guadalajara (GDL). The coordination between these networks is intended to expand travel options, improve connection times and create a more unified travel experience for passengers flying between the two countries.
The joint venture strengthens the two airlines’ position in the Mexico–United States market by aligning schedules and fares and by offering integrated customer services. Travelers can expect more convenient connections, coordinated frequent flyer benefits where applicable, and improved ground facilities at key airports.
Overall, the agreement is designed to deliver a more seamless and reliable travel experience for passengers traveling between the United States and Mexico, supported by coordinated operations, joint investments in infrastructure and combined marketing efforts.
