Boston’s Hidden Hong Kong Ties: Culture, Trade & Neighborhoods

Cathay Pacific Airways will begin a new four-times-weekly nonstop service between Boston Logan International Airport and Hong Kong (HKG) starting May 1, 2015.

Pending government approval, this route will establish the first direct link between New England and Hong Kong and represents Cathay Pacific’s sixth gateway in the United States and eighth in North America. The airline, honored as the World’s Best Airline in the 2014 Skytrax World Airline Awards, already operates services to Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO), Toronto (YYZ) and Vancouver (YVR).

“The only nonstop Boston–Hong Kong service is significant not just for connecting Boston with this major Asian business and tourism hub,” said Tom Owen, senior vice president Americas, Cathay Pacific. “It also opens the broader New England region to many Asian destinations, including more than 22 cities in Mainland China, as well as important economic and tourism centers across Southeast Asia — such as Singapore, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Bali and Hanoi. With this new service, travel times from Boston to these regions will be substantially reduced.”

The route will be operated with a Boeing 777-300ER, equipped with Cathay Pacific’s newly refreshed first class, award-winning business class, the newer premium economy cabin, and an updated long-haul economy class. The aircraft configuration and onboard amenities aim to provide improved comfort and convenience for both leisure and business travelers on this long-haul connection.
