Located opposite the Tuileries Garden, Le Meurice is often described as the heartbeat of Paris. Deeply rooted in French culture, the hotel has been intertwined with the country’s history and the history of art. Over the years, Le Meurice’s walls have welcomed figures such as Coco Chanel, Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli and Ernest Hemingway, each contributing to its storied legacy.
This year marks the ninth edition of the Meurice Prize, a reaffirmation of the hotel’s longstanding commitment to art. The initiative highlights the hotel’s belief that art is a vital source of inspiration and a force for improving society.
From October 10 to 23, the Galerie Castiglione inside the hotel hosted a public exhibition presenting projects by the six finalists. The exhibition invited visitors to engage with contemporary practices across disciplines, reinforcing Le Meurice’s role as a champion of culture and a platform for French artistic heritage.
The Meurice Prize awards $21,809 to a project that demonstrates international ambition and artistic excellence. Open to all visual and plastic arts — including painting, sculpture, installation, photography and video — the prize is presented to an artist in partnership with their gallery, recognizing projects of notable scope and impact.
Established in 2008, the prize has consistently supported emerging talent. Funded by the hotel’s non-profit corporate sponsorship, the award provides financial support and visibility that help younger artists and their galleries gain wider recognition on the international stage.
Since 2009, Le Meurice has regularly exhibited works by Meurice Prize finalists throughout the hotel’s public spaces. For eight consecutive years the hotel has acquired pieces from former finalists, enriching its collection and making contemporary art accessible to guests and visitors alike, while preserving the hotel’s cultural and historical identity.
