India Overtakes China as World’s Most Populous Country

In the June 21 issue of eFlyer, we reported that India officially became the world’s most populous country, surpassing China. The story highlighted new tourism projects and plans to grow the travel sector. We asked whether readers have visited India and how they feel about the country becoming a major travel hub in Asia. One reader responded:

While I wasn’t surprised that India has become the most populous country, I’m curious to see how it will balance serving its large domestic population while accommodating growing international interest. The expanding middle class is an encouraging sign; it means more Indians will travel abroad, and more travelers will likely visit India.

Wildlife Encounters at U.S. Tourist Spots Leave Many Wary

In our July 26 issue of eFlyer, we covered several recent wildlife encounters at U.S. parks and tourist sites, including a tragic animal attack. We asked readers for additional safety tips for travelers planning park visits. One reader offered advice from experience:

As a Florida native who has dealt with local wildlife—alligators, snakes and spiders—I’ve learned practical safety habits. Never feed alligators; feeding teaches them to associate people with food and can make them aggressive. If you come across a snake on a trail or in a park, don’t disturb it and remain calm. Snakes sense vibrations and know you’re much larger than they are. If bitten and you’re unsure whether the snake is venomous, try to stay calm and immobilize the area while seeking medical help.

Florida’s parks and natural areas are beautiful, but enjoying them safely means respecting the wildlife that lives there.

What are the Most Powerful Passports in 2023?

In the July 19 issue of eFlyer, we summarized Henley & Partners’ Passport Index, which ranked Singapore’s passport as the most powerful in 2023. We asked whether any of the rankings surprised readers. One response stood out:

I was surprised to see the United Arab Emirates ranked as high as No. 12. The country’s rapid development across industries is notable; a decade ago it was ranked 56th, so this rise is impressive. I hope to visit the U.A.E. someday.

Other surprising entries were Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania and Estonia. It was interesting to see the United States and Lithuania tied in global mobility.
