Uber Streamlines Business Trip Expense Reporting for Companies

Ride-hailing company Uber announced in March that it will introduce an “auto-expense” feature to make expense management simpler for travelers, particularly those traveling for business. The new functionality allows users to link their corporate expense accounts directly with the app so eligible rides are routed for reimbursement without extra steps.

The primary benefit is faster, more reliable reimbursements: when a ride is taken on a linked Business Profile, the receipt can be sent automatically to the user’s expense management provider, reducing delays and lost receipts.

“With Auto-Expense you can link your Business Profile to your expense provider, like preferred partner Concur as well as Expensify, Certify and Chrome River. Next time you ride on your Business Profile a copy of your receipt will be automatically sent for reimbursement,” Uber said in an announcement about the feature.

Uber noted that filing expense reports is often tedious and that many travelers routinely misplace receipts. The company framed Auto-Expense as a way to eliminate that friction: riders who use Business Profiles won’t have to sort through emails or worry about forgetting to file an Uber receipt, since eligible trip receipts will be submitted automatically.

This initiative builds on Uber’s Business Profiles, introduced late last year to help users separate personal and work rides more easily. Business Profiles allow travelers to keep billing, receipts and ride history distinct between personal and corporate usage, and Auto-Expense extends that separation by automating reimbursement workflows.

Uber highlighted the feature’s relevance for corporate travel: nearly 1 million riders are already using the Business Profile features, representing more than 200,000 companies. By integrating with major expense providers, the company aims to streamline travel expense administration for both employees and finance teams.

Overall, Auto-Expense is designed to reduce manual effort, speed up reimbursements and lower the risk of missed or misplaced receipts for business travelers using Uber’s platform.
