Kenya’s First Boeing 787 Dreamliner Takes Flight

Kenya Airways has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the initial aircraft in a planned nine-aircraft expansion. According to CEO Titus Naikuni, this arrival marks a significant milestone for both the airline and the country. The 787 will allow Kenya Airways to access new markets, enhance operational efficiency, offer passengers improved comfort, and support sustainable development across Africa.

Based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, the carrier currently operates a long-haul fleet comprised entirely of Boeing jets, including six 767-300ERs, four 777-200ERs and one 777-300ER. The newly delivered 787 will first serve regional routes within Africa and is scheduled to begin long-haul flights to Paris (CDG) in early June. With this acquisition, Kenya Airways becomes the second African airline to receive a Dreamliner, following Ethiopian Airlines.
