Air Astana Launches New Direct Service to London

Air Astana will launch the first nonstop connection linking London Heathrow (LHR) and Astana (TSE), Kazakhstan’s capital, beginning October 29. This new direct service marks the first time the two capitals will be connected by a nonstop scheduled flight operated by the national carrier.

The airline plans to operate the London–Astana route once weekly using a Boeing 757-200, configured with 16 business class seats and 150 economy seats. The aircraft choice reflects Air Astana’s effort to balance capacity and comfort on this medium-haul route while offering a premium cabin for business travelers and a generous economy cabin for leisure and connecting passengers.

Service patterns are designed to integrate the new nonstop into Air Astana’s broader United Kingdom network. The carrier will operate a multi-sector schedule that also maintains its existing London–Almaty connection. On Tuesdays, the routing will be Almaty–London–Astana–Almaty, enabling passengers to travel between Almaty and London with a continuing sector to Astana. On Thursdays the rotation becomes Almaty–Astana–London–Almaty, and on Saturdays the airline will continue to offer a direct nonstop service between Almaty and London. These coordinated schedules provide options for travelers between Kazakhstan’s largest city and the UK capital, as well as a new direct option between Astana and London.

Peter Foster, president of Air Astana, commented that the expansion boosts the airline’s capacity between Kazakhstan and London Heathrow by 50 percent and creates the first direct link between the two capital cities. The move is intended to support business, government, and leisure travel demand between the UK and Kazakhstan, improving connectivity for both inbound and outbound passengers.

The new nonstop is likely to appeal to a variety of travelers: business passengers who value the time savings of a direct flight between Astana and London; tourists and visiting friends and relatives who benefit from simpler itineraries and fewer transfers; and international travelers connecting through Kazakhstan to other destinations in Central Asia. By operating the route with a single-aisle wide-range Boeing 757-200, Air Astana can offer a premium cabin experience while keeping frequency manageable as it assesses demand.

Adding the London–Astana nonstop also enhances Air Astana’s hub connectivity. Travelers flying into London can connect onward via Almaty or Astana depending on their itinerary, and the weekly direct operation establishes a reliable, headline service that can be expanded in response to market demand. For UK travelers, the introduction of a direct link to Astana simplifies travel for diplomatic, commercial, and cultural exchanges with Kazakhstan’s government and business centers.

Passengers planning to use the new service should check schedules and book through Air Astana’s official channels, where the airline will publish detailed timetables, fare classes, and baggage rules. As with any new route, seasonal demand and commercial performance may influence future frequency, but the initial launch underscores Air Astana’s commitment to strengthening air links between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom.
