United Airlines Launches Four New Seasonal Routes to Europe

Beginning in late spring 2018, United Airlines will introduce four new nonstop routes between the United States and Europe.

Two routes will operate from United’s hub at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Seasonal service to Reykjavik, Iceland (RKV) will run May 23–October 4, 2018, and seasonal flights to Porto, Portugal (OPO) will operate May 4–October 4, 2018. The Porto service marks the first nonstop connection between a U.S. carrier and the Portuguese city.

A third seasonal route will provide daily service from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI) from May 23–October 4, 2018. The fourth new route will begin June 7, 2018, offering nonstop service between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Zurich, Switzerland (ZRH) with an approximate 11-hour flight time.

These additions reflect United’s strategy to expand its international network and offer direct connections for domestic travelers to popular European destinations. The four routes complement other transoceanic services United has recently launched or resumed, including Los Angeles (LAX) to Singapore (SIN) and Houston (IAH) to Sydney (SYD), among the longest nonstop routes operated by any U.S. carrier.
