Strawberry & Flower Museums to Visit in Belgium

In Wépion, a picturesque town in Wallonia, Belgium, the Musée de la Fraise (Strawberry Museum) celebrates the region’s long tradition of strawberry cultivation. Spread across five exhibition rooms, the museum explores the history, techniques and innovations involved in growing and marketing strawberries. Guided tours provide insight into local farming practices and the cultural importance of the fruit, while the museum shop offers a wide selection of regional products made from local berries — from preserves and confections to more unusual items such as strawberry beer.

The floral theme continues with a museum dedicated to one of history’s finest botanical artists. Pierre-Joseph Redouté, often called “the Raphael of Flowers” for his exceptional paintings of roses, is honored at the Pierre-Joseph Redouté Museum in Saint-Hubert. The collection includes many of Redouté’s original watercolors, prints and related works, along with etchings from his notable contribution to Description of Egypt. The museum is available by appointment until July and then opens daily from 2–6 p.m. Visitors should also allow time to stroll through the nearby Roseraie on Avenue des Chasseurs Ardennais, where the scent of about 50 rose varieties fills the air.
