Six Senses Opens First North American Hotel, Resort & Spa

Six Senses Hotels Resorts and Spas has announced the brand’s first property in the United States with the upcoming opening of Six Senses New York. Scheduled to open in 2019, the luxury hotel is being developed in Manhattan between the popular High Line and the Hudson River.

The development occupies the full block on 10th Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets in Chelsea, a neighborhood known for its vibrant arts community. Branded The Eleventh, the project includes two striking towers designed by the award-winning Bjarke Ingels Group. The towers draw inspiration from classic Modernist architecture, cultural institutions and traditional skyscraper forms; their rotating façades of stone and metal add movement and contrast to Chelsea’s contemporary streetscape.

Rising roughly 300 and 400 feet, the towers will stand taller than nearby buildings and offer sweeping views of the High Line and Manhattan skyline. Six Senses will operate a five-star hotel within the complex alongside about 240 condominium residences and premium retail space. Guest accommodations will start at approximately 400 square feet, reflecting the brand’s emphasis on personalized service, thoughtful design and a high quality of life.

“This project is a fascinating and exciting contrast to the typical Six Senses locations where we operate resorts in settings with azure waters, UNESCO heritage listings and lush rainforests,” said Neil Jacobs, chief executive officer of Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas. “Six Senses New York will carry the same touch points and DNA, with thoughtful adaptation for an urban environment, and no compromise on our commitment to community, wellness, sustainability and design. We are delighted to partner with HFZ on this exceptional development.”

The Eleventh is being planned to pursue Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Guest rooms, public spaces and building systems will be designed with sustainability in mind to align with the brand’s environmental commitments.

Wellness is central to the Six Senses experience, and the New York property will take a layered approach that integrates science and human-centered care. The hotel’s spa programs will be tailored to the individual, blending modern treatments with holistic practices. Dining will reflect the brand’s wellness focus as well: two on-site restaurants will prioritize fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Additional plans include a private members’ club and an innovative meetings and events space designed for both community and privacy.

By combining thoughtful sustainability measures, wellness-focused amenities and a distinctive architectural presence, Six Senses New York aims to bring the brand’s signature hospitality to an urban setting while honoring Chelsea’s creative character and the city’s dynamic skyline.
