New California Hotels Opening This Fall: Top Picks and Dates

With fall approaching, California’s hospitality scene gears up for an exciting wave of hotel and retreat openings. From mountain hideaways to urban sanctuaries, these new properties promise fresh dining, wellness and design-driven stays across the state.

LINE Hotel San Francisco

Opening Sept. 1, LINE Hotel San Francisco introduces 236 rooms and four distinct dining venues, including a landscaped rooftop solarium with panoramic city views. The 12-story property, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group in collaboration with Handel Architects, blends contemporary design with local culture and includes a dedicated space for the community theater company Magic Theater.

Sensei Porcupine Creek

Set on a 230-acre private estate in the Santa Rosa Mountains of Rancho Mirage, Sensei Porcupine Creek delivers an ultra-luxury wellness retreat—Sensei’s second retreat and first on the U.S. mainland. The property offers a limited number of rooms in the main estate house, private villas dotted around the grounds, a private golf course, tennis courts, spa facilities and a swimming pool. Dining includes the anticipated Sensei by Nobu restaurant, rounding out a holistic wellness experience.

The Jordan San Gabriel, Curio Collection by Hilton

Just 11 miles from downtown Los Angeles, The Jordan San Gabriel brings a serene third-floor outdoor oasis with landscaped grounds, a heated pool, fitness center and hot tub. The hotel also features a full-service spa, ballroom and a rooftop banquet room with views of the San Gabriel Mountains. Dining options include Lou’s Place in the lobby for light fare and local favorites, and the Vine, an all-day banquet-style dining room.

Drift Santa Barbara

Arriving in Santa Barbara later this year, Drift Santa Barbara from TMC Hospitality targets a tech-savvy, modern traveler. Located on State Street, the hotel emphasizes contemporary design and contactless convenience. The surrounding neighborhood and on-site offerings focus on casual, social dining—nearby options include Hana Kitchen (a Mexican- and Asian-inspired build-your-own-bowl concept) and Sandbar, which features Mexican dishes, outdoor patios and firepits. On-site eateries will include Dawn Cafe and Dusk Craft Bar.

Moxy Downtown Los Angeles

Scheduled for an October opening, Moxy Downtown Los Angeles brings together top architecture and interior design firms—Gensler, Yabu Pushelberg and Basile Studio—to create a lively, design-forward property. The 380-room hotel will feature 13 restaurants, bars and nightlife venues, plus four outdoor terraces and a pool deck with city views. Meeting and event spaces are included, and guestrooms showcase floor-to-ceiling windows for sweeping skyline views.

Wildhaven Yosemite

Expanding its glamping presence, Wildhaven opens a second Sonoma-area location this fall just outside Mariposa. The property debuts with 40 upscale glamping tents and a range of outdoor recreational services. Wildhaven plans to add another 40 tents in 2023–2024 to increase options for immersive outdoor stays near Yosemite.
