American Airlines and Expedia Expand Travel Partnership for More Flight Options

To provide travelers with more choices, American Airlines and Expedia, Inc. have renewed their distribution agreement so that American Airlines and US Airways flights continue to be available through Expedia, Travelocity and Hotwire. The renewed partnership also expands collaboration between the Expedia Affiliate Network and AA Vacations: EAN will now supply hotel content for American Airlines’ website, giving customers smoother access to both air and hotel options when planning trips.

The agreement introduces new paid seating options on select sites within the Expedia, Inc. brand portfolio later this year, making it easier for leisure customers to select a seat that fits their needs. Options will include Main Cabin Extra, which provides up to six inches of additional legroom and priority boarding, and Preferred Seats, which offer standard legroom in a more favorable cabin location. Expedia, Inc. customers will be able to identify, select and purchase these paid seating upgrades directly from the online seat map during booking.

Greg Schulze, senior vice president of Global Tour & Transport at Expedia, Inc., said the expanded agreement allows the company to present a broader set of travel and seating options across nearly 350 destinations served by American Airlines. This enhanced choice aims to help travelers find the ideal combination of flight, seat and ancillary services to suit their preferences and budget.

The renewed relationship between the two companies emphasizes seamless integration of flight inventory and ancillary services, streamlining the booking experience on major online travel agency sites. By surfacing both flight and hotel content across partner sites and enabling paid seating selection within the booking flow, the partnership seeks to reduce friction and give customers clearer, more flexible options when comparing itineraries.

Expanding ancillary offerings like Main Cabin Extra and Preferred Seats reflects a broader industry trend toward providing a la carte options that let travelers tailor their journey. For many leisure travelers, the ability to choose additional legroom or a better seat location during the initial booking step increases convenience and confidence in the purchase, rather than requiring customers to add upgrades later.

For travel sellers and affiliates, the agreement opens opportunities to present richer product bundles—combining flights, hotels and seat upgrades—so consumers can make more informed choices at the point of sale. Delivering these capabilities through Expedia, Travelocity, Hotwire and partner sites supports a consistent experience across the Expedia, Inc. brand portfolio and on American Airlines’ own channels through the hotel content supplied by EAN.

Overall, the renewed agreement aligns both companies around a common goal: giving travelers straightforward access to a wider set of travel products and seat options, improving the online booking experience while maintaining the flexibility to customize trips according to personal preferences and budgets.
