SkyTeam has announced plans to open a lounge at Vancouver International Airport later this year. This will be the alliance’s first lounge in North America and its seventh lounge worldwide, joining existing locations at Heathrow, Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul and Sydney.
The Vancouver lounge is being designed to provide a comfortable, upscale environment for First, Business and Elite Plus customers traveling on any of the alliance’s member airlines that serve the airport. The airlines currently operating at Vancouver include Aeromexico, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Delta Air Lines, KLM, Korean Air and Xiamen Air.
SkyTeam’s CEO and Managing Director, Perry Cantarutti, emphasized the benefits of expanding shared facilities: “Increasing the number of shared facilities worldwide realizes significant synergies for our airlines while offering a greatly enhanced airport experience for our top customers.” With this new opening, SkyTeam expects to offer more branded airport lounges around the globe than any other airline alliance.
The alliance says the Vancouver project is part of a broader focus on initiatives that enhance the customer experience. The lounge will aim to deliver upgraded amenities, quiet spaces for relaxation, and attentive service tailored to premium and elite travelers, aligning with SkyTeam’s ongoing efforts to improve airport facilities and benefits for its members’ passengers.
By concentrating resources on shared lounges, SkyTeam intends to streamline operations and provide consistent standards across its network. Passengers flying through Vancouver can anticipate an elevated pre-flight experience that reflects the alliance’s global lounge approach, including dedicated areas for work and rest, enhanced food and beverage offerings, and comfortable seating designed for both short waits and longer layovers.
As the opening approaches, SkyTeam and its member airlines will likely provide more details about the lounge’s exact location within Vancouver International Airport, hours of operation, and the specific services and amenities that will be available to qualifying travelers. For now, the announcement underscores SkyTeam’s strategy of expanding branded, high-quality airport facilities to better serve frequent flyers and premium customers worldwide.
