Fiji Airways has expanded its services to strengthen tourism and business connections between Fiji and Australia by launching a new non-stop route between Suva (SUV) and Sydney (SYD). The twice-weekly service operates with Boeing 737-800 aircraft and aims to make travel between Fiji’s capital and Australia’s largest city quicker and more convenient for both leisure and business passengers.
Stefan Pichler, Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, said the new route will encourage more Australians to visit Fiji and explore destinations beyond the main resorts. “We’re excited about the introduction of this new service, which will allow Australian travelers to further explore and experience all that Fiji has to offer,” he said. The direct flight to Suva is designed to boost tourism to Suva itself, Pacific Harbour, and nearby islands, while also providing a practical option for government, corporate, and other professional travelers.
In addition to the Sydney–Suva route, Fiji Airways plans to expand its Suva network further next month with a new service to Samoa (APW). That route will be operated by Fiji Link, the airline’s regional subsidiary, and is intended to improve connectivity across the South Pacific, linking communities and stimulating regional travel and trade.
By adding direct flights and refining regional connections, Fiji Airways is positioning Suva as a stronger hub for visitors who want to experience authentic Fijian culture, business travelers needing direct access to government and commercial centers, and regional travelers seeking convenient island-to-island transport. The use of Boeing 737-800s on the Sydney service ensures a reliable and comfortable journey for passengers, with a configuration suited to short-to-medium-haul international flights.
