Arrival/Check-in: I arrived exhausted after an early-morning transcontinental flight and a full day of meetings, eager to get to my room and relax. The staff at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills made that easy. I kept my luggage with me and found the front desk attendant friendly and professional. She came around the desk to direct me to the elevators, and I was on my way. My only small complaint: the elevators were consistently slow. Check-in is tucked to the left, but the entryway and lobby are beautiful and worth admiring as you enter. (27/30)
Guest Quarters: Walking into my one-bedroom suite, my first thought was that I wished I could stay longer. The property completed a $33 million renovation in March 2010, and the décor feels chic and elegant throughout. A cushioned wall behind the bed, highlighted by a large floral silhouette, is particularly striking.
The suite opens to a spacious living area with a sofa, an armchair, a glass coffee table and a chaise-style chair. A wall of windows looks out over Los Angeles, and a small balcony offers a spot to stand and take in the view. A generously sized bathroom with ample L-shaped counter space completes the main living area.
Through an interior door is the sizable bedroom, which mirrors the sitting area and includes its own patio. The king-sized bed was exceptionally comfortable—one of the most restful I can remember. A second bathroom is conveniently located off the bedroom. (29/30)
Services/Amenities: Dining at Culina, the hotel’s modern Italian restaurant, was a highlight—both breakfast and dinner were excellent. The spa is compact but well-appointed; a 90-minute Manipura Experience (a scrub followed by a massage) was the perfect way to unwind before a red-eye flight.
The Cabana Restaurant beside the fourth-floor pool and fitness center provides casual, light dining, and Windows Lounge is a stylish spot popular with Los Angeles professionals. Overall the hotel’s food and wellness offerings are thoughtfully curated and of high quality. (39/40)
The Experience: I left wishing I had more time at the property. During my short stay I was genuinely impressed by the service, design and comfort. Although the hotel is somewhat tucked away, having a car makes the location easy to access. A notable touch: the sculptures of Marilyn Monroe and Vincent van Gogh by American sculptor J. Seward Johnson greet guests on the outside portico, creating a memorable arrival.
