Despite its modest size tucked into a colorful box canyon, the mountain town of Telluride, Colo., offers a lively lineup of festivals from Memorial Day weekend through the end of the year. The season begins with Mountainfilm (May 27–30), a documentary film festival that pairs screenings with community events, interactive talks and outdoor programming. The 33rd Annual Telluride Balloon Festival (June 3–5) fills the peaked skies at sunrise, with the final night featuring “Glow,” a striking display of inflated balloons lining Main Street.
Over summer solstice weekend (June 16–19), the 43rd Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival brings together acclaimed artists and a spirited crowd for several days of music. The following weekend (June 23–26), vintners and wine lovers convene for the Telluride Wine Festival, which includes events such as Toast of Telluride, winemaker dinners and what the festival markets as one of the highest-altitude grand tastings in North America.
In August (Aug. 5–7), the Telluride Jazz Festival showcases a mix of Grammy-winning performers and rising ensembles, with a featured guest of honor this year. As summer shifts toward fall, Telluride Blues & Brews (Sept. 16–18) fills the streets with blues, funk, jam bands, indie, rock, gospel and soul artists, alongside craft vendors, late-night shows and samplings from dozens of microbreweries.
Car enthusiasts find their moment in late September and early October with the Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors (Sept. 29–Oct. 2), celebrating luxury restorations, vintage classics and exotic vehicles. Together, these events highlight Telluride’s ability to deliver a wide range of culture, music, food and outdoor experiences despite its compact footprint—and they provide visitors many reasons to return across several seasons.
