United Airlines passengers who connect through smaller airports will soon have better inflight connectivity. The carrier plans to equip more than 200 two-cabin United Express regional jets with Wi-Fi and personal device entertainment. The first Wi-Fi-enabled flights are expected to begin later this year.
United will install Gogo’s ATG-4 air-to-ground Wi-Fi system on Embraer E170, E175 and Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft, with installations scheduled to be completed by next summer.
Early next year, United also intends to roll out personal device entertainment on these aircraft. Customers will be able to stream a selection of movies and television shows on Wi-Fi-enabled iOS and Android devices through United’s mobile app, as well as on laptop computers.
“United is pleased to extend our growing Wi‑Fi and personal device entertainment platform to our fleet of larger regional jets,” said Jeff Foland, executive vice president of marketing, technology and strategy at United Airlines. “These enhancements will improve the in‑flight experience for our customers.”
