Etihad Regional is expanding its network from Zurich Airport, adding five new destinations and increasing its Zurich schedule to eight cities. The carrier will begin daily flights between Zurich and Linz, Austria (LNZ); Lyon, France (LYS); and Verona, Italy (VRN). In addition, Etihad Regional will operate services from Zurich to Düsseldorf, Germany (DUS) twice weekly, and to Florence, Italy (FLR) four times per week.
These new frequencies are intended to strengthen regional business and tourism connections and to enhance the airline’s position as a leading regional operator, said Maurizio Merlo, CEO of Etihad Regional. The expanded schedule builds on the airline’s existing Zurich links to Geneva, Switzerland (GVA); Leipzig–Halle, Germany (LEJ); and Turin, Italy (TRN).
Etihad Regional will operate the new routes using a mix of ATR 72-500 aircraft, configured with 68 economy seats, and Saab 2000 turboprops, which offer 50 seats in a two-class layout. This fleet choice aims to match capacity to demand on regional markets while providing reliable, frequent connections for both leisure and business travelers.
The additional services from Zurich are expected to provide improved connectivity across central Europe, offering passengers more options for short-haul travel and easier access to key regional hubs. By adding daily and multiple-weekly frequencies, the carrier hopes to better serve regular travelers, stimulate tourism flows, and support trade links between Switzerland and neighboring countries.
Etihad Regional’s expansion reflects a targeted approach to route development: focusing on nearby cities with consistent demand and opportunities for point-to-point travel. The combination of daily, twice-weekly, and four-times-weekly frequencies gives the airline flexibility to grow routes based on seasonal trends and passenger uptake.
From Zurich, passengers will now be able to choose from an expanded set of destinations that cover important business and cultural centers in Austria, France, Germany, and Italy. The airline’s regional aircraft operate efficiently on short sectors, making them well suited for frequent rotations and convenient schedules that fit business trips and weekend getaways alike.
With this announcement, Etihad Regional reinforces its commitment to strengthening regional air links in and out of Zurich, while offering a variety of schedule options to meet different travel needs. The combination of aircraft types and increased frequencies is intended to improve the travel experience by providing more departure choices and seamless connections within the carrier’s regional network.
