Historic Hollywood Lodge Reopens in Mammoth Lakes After $Million Renovation

Built in 1967 by former Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss, Sierra Nevada Lodge has long been a favored mountain retreat for celebrities such as John Wayne, Jerry Lewis and members of Hollywood’s Rat Pack. Recently refurbished as part of a three-year, $3 million restoration of the historic property, the lodge now features six bi-level chalets and 15 new fireplace suites designed to blend classic alpine charm with contemporary comforts.

The updated fireplace suites offer gas stone fireplaces, granite countertops and resort-style kitchen layouts. Bathrooms were thoughtfully redesigned with hand-hewn sinks, waterfall-style showers and deep soaking tubs for a restorative experience after a day on the slopes. The chalets provide fully equipped kitchens with butcher-block counters, wood-burning fireplaces and 46-inch LCD HD televisions, creating a comfortable home-away-from-home for families and groups.

Guest rooms throughout the main resort continue to emphasize the modern-cozy ski lodge atmosphere that defines the property. Amenities on site include three restaurants serving a range of dining options, an on-site ski rental shop for convenient gear access, a sauna for post-ski relaxation and conference facilities for business or events. The resort also offers a complimentary airport shuttle to simplify travel logistics and a large hot tub capable of accommodating up to 24 people—an inviting spot for socializing and warming up after outdoor activities.

Located in the heart of Mammoth Lakes, the lodge’s mix of updated accommodations and traditional alpine character makes it well suited to both adventure-seekers and those seeking a peaceful mountain getaway. Whether you’re drawn by the nearby slopes, the cozy fireplaces or the spacious chalet kitchens, Sierra Nevada Lodge combines historic pedigree with modern amenities to create a memorable stay.
