Moxy Hotels Opens in Tromsø: New Arctic-Style Stay in Norway

Opened in spring 2023, Moxy Tromsø blends bold, industrial-inspired design with attentive service. The property offers 208 thoughtfully appointed rooms, each featuring walk-in showers, 55-inch flat-screen TVs and motion-activated LED guide lights. The hotel’s layout makes the most of Tromsø’s natural beauty: the front desk is located on the top floor within Sky Bar Moxy, turning check-in into a social moment. Guests are greeted with a signature Got Moxy cocktail or a mocktail at arrival.

Danish studio Mette Fredskild designed interiors that reflect the region, taking cues from local folk dress with indigo, cobalt and city blues balanced by warmer tones such as purple, brown and deep red. Public-area murals by local artists Alice Kvalvik and Jonathan Broca add playful, locally inspired artworks that celebrate life in Tromsø and the surrounding landscape.

Sky Bar Moxy on the top floors captures the brand’s playful spirit with board games, a foosball table and café tables printed with game boards. The 11th-floor rooftop terrace provides unobstructed views of the city and fjord, while an indoor lounge features a telescope for wildlife spotting and winter stargazing.

The bar serves light bites and crafted cocktails and hosts lively programming that welcomes both locals and travelers. On tap are local brews such as Nordlys (“northern lights”) and Isbjørn Lite (“polar bear”), a gluten-free option from MACK. Signature Moxy drinks are available, including the non-alcoholic Fauxy Moxy with strawberry, rose and hibiscus notes. The Moxy Pickups menu offers international favorites, and a dedicated barista counter provides coffee for guests enjoying long daylight hours.

Moxy Tromsø also serves as a convenient base for Arctic activities: guests can arrange husky and reindeer encounters, learn about Sami culture, join whale safaris, chase the Northern Lights, fish, cross-country ski, cruise the fjords or visit Tromsø’s museums. The hotel’s location and facilities make it an inviting hub for discovering the region’s natural wonders and cultural experiences.
