Arrival/Check-In: I arrived in Taipei on a Sunday afternoon from Kuala Lumpur and took a cab to the Xinyi district, the city’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan area. The Grand Hyatt Taipei sits directly beside Taipei 101, the Taipei World Trade Center and the Taipei International Convention Center, with numerous shops and entertainment venues within easy walking distance—an ideal location for both business and leisure travelers. Staff greeted me warmly in the grand, airy lobby and escorted me to the front desk. Check-in was efficient and smooth, and I was soon on my way to the room. Francis X. Gallagher, CEO and publisher of Global Traveler, had arrived from Dubai earlier that day; we met in the Grand Club Lounge to catch up over drinks.
Guest Quarters: My Grand Club Premier King room made a strong first impression. Recently renovated, the room blends contemporary East-meets-West design with expansive views of the mountains and Taipei 101. At roughly 540 square feet, the layout included a separate bedroom and living area. A large work desk and complimentary high-speed wireless internet made it easy to take care of work, while the modern marble bathroom—with a separate tub and walk-in shower—was both attractive and practical. The bathroom featured June Jacobs amenities, ample closet space and a large vanity. The king bed was topped with high-quality linens and comfortable pillows.
Services/Amenities: Access to the Grand Club proved to be a valuable perk throughout my stay. In addition to meeting Francis for drinks, we enjoyed breakfast in the lounge each morning before long days of meetings. The Grand Club offered attentive service and a solid variety of culinary choices. The hotel houses 11 restaurants; during my stay I had a memorable dim sum lunch at Yun Jin, where seasonal specialties such as hairy crab were available. I also used the 24-hour Club Oasis gym for several workouts. The fitness facilities include multiple rooms with a wide range of equipment and pleasant views of Taipei.
The Experience: The Grand Hyatt Taipei delivered an excellent stay, and I would gladly return. Its prime location and comprehensive facilities make it a convenient and comfortable choice for travelers visiting Taipei for business or pleasure.
