Kempinski Expands Across Africa: New Hotels and Investment Plans

Kempinski Hotels has announced plans to expand its presence across Africa with five new properties set to open within the next year. The historic European luxury brand will open the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, Ghana and the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski in Cairo, Egypt early next year. Additional projects include a hotel and golf resort in Oyala, Equatorial Guinea, plus new properties planned for Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo by the end of the year.

The group currently operates 80 hotels across 31 countries and has recently grown its footprint in East Africa. New openings in Kenya include the 5-star Villa Rosa Kempinski near Nairobi’s Central Business District and Olare Mara Kempinski, a luxury camp in the Olare Orok Conservancy, an area known for its significant lion populations. These openings reflect Kempinski’s strategy of combining premium locations with unique local experiences.

Reto Witter, president and CEO of Kempinski Hotels, emphasized the company’s commitment to long-term development on the continent: “We will continue our development strategy throughout the continent over the next few years, partnering with key players in Africa to secure the best locations for our luxury properties. There is a worldwide fascination with this region and we believe in the strength of places like Kenya as a destination.”

The planned additions in Accra and Cairo target important business and cultural hubs, while the Oyala resort aims to position Kempinski within a growing leisure and golf market. Properties in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo would further broaden the brand’s presence in East and Central Africa, tapping into business travel, tourism and high-end hospitality demand.

Kempinski’s expansion aligns with broader trends in luxury hotel development across Africa, where rising tourism, investment in infrastructure and increasing international interest are creating opportunities for premium hospitality brands. By selecting prominent cities and unique resort locations, Kempinski seeks to offer both urban five-star service and destination retreats that showcase local landscapes and wildlife.

As the openings proceed, guests can expect Kempinski’s signature emphasis on refined service, elegant design and curated experiences tailored to each destination’s culture and environment. The group’s growth across African markets underscores its focus on strategic partnerships and prime locations to deliver consistent luxury standards while celebrating local character.
