Citi and American Airlines introduced the new AAdvantage MileUp credit card on July 22. This no-annual-fee card is designed for everyday spending and offers travel rewards that are simple to earn and redeem.
The card earns two AAdvantage miles per $1 spent on eligible American Airlines purchases and at grocery stores, and one mile per $1 on all other purchases. This structure rewards routine expenses as well as travel-related spending, making it easier for cardmembers to accumulate miles without changing their habits.
To encourage new applicants, Citi and American Airlines are offering a limited-time promotion: new cardmembers can receive 10,000 bonus miles and a $50 statement credit after spending $500 within the first three months of account opening. This incentive gives a helpful head start toward future travel.
Existing Citi AAdvantage Bronze cardholders also benefit from the updated earning rates. Starting July 22, they will earn two miles per $1 on eligible American Airlines purchases and at grocery stores, and one mile per $1 on all other purchases, aligning Bronze benefits with the new MileUp offering.
Valerie Greer, head of co-brand partnerships at Citi Cards, emphasized the card’s everyday focus: “As a new approach to support everyday spending, we’re excited to offer a different type of credit card in partnership with American Airlines — one that enables cardmembers to earn more miles and travel rewards through trips to the supermarket. Vacations are memory-making experiences, and the AAdvantage MileUp card can help consumers take that dream trip or mini break simply through day-to-day purchases.”
Bridget Blaise-Shamai, vice president of loyalty and customer insights at American Airlines, noted the card’s role in making travel more accessible: “We know our customers are looking forward to taking their next trip, and American’s and Citi’s new no-annual-fee card gives more customers a way to put that travel on the calendar sooner. The AAdvantage MileUp card is an excellent addition to our portfolio of co-branded credit card offerings that deliver benefits for every cardmember.”
The AAdvantage MileUp card targets travelers and everyday spenders who prefer a straightforward, no-fee rewards structure. By combining elevated grocery and airline spending rewards with a low barrier to entry, the card aims to help users build miles steadily. Prospective applicants should review the full terms, eligibility requirements, and any promotional timelines directly with Citi and American Airlines before applying.
