Viceroy Resort to Open New Luxury Hotel in Africa

Viceroy Hotel Group is expanding into Africa with its first resort on the islands of Cape Verde. Located in the Samabla region, Cape Verde sits roughly 350 miles off Senegal’s west coast and offers a blend of dramatic volcanic landscapes, sandy beaches and year-round warm weather—an ideal setting for a luxury resort experience.

Planned to open in 2017, Viceroy Cape Verde will introduce 150 well-appointed guestrooms designed to combine contemporary comfort with local character. Guest accommodations will be complemented by three distinct restaurants, each offering diverse culinary experiences that highlight fresh, regional ingredients alongside international cuisine. In addition, a dedicated children’s club will cater to younger guests with supervised activities and programs that encourage exploration, creativity and cultural learning.

The resort’s leisure and activity offerings will be broad, tailored to both adventurous travelers and those seeking relaxation. A fully equipped sports center will provide access to popular ocean activities such as scuba diving, allowing guests to explore Cape Verde’s underwater reefs and marine life. Big-game fishing excursions will be available for anglers interested in deep-sea pursuits, while paragliding options will give guests the chance to soar above the islands and enjoy panoramic coastal views.

Viceroy Cape Verde aims to blend upscale hospitality with responsible tourism practices, working to minimize environmental impact and engage with the local community. By integrating locally influenced design elements, cuisine and cultural programming, the resort is expected to offer guests an authentic sense of place while meeting international standards of service and luxury.

With its strategic island location, diverse activity offerings and family-friendly amenities, Viceroy Cape Verde is positioned to become a notable addition to Cape Verde’s hospitality landscape. The resort is intended to attract a wide range of visitors—from families and couples to adventure seekers—looking for a high-quality island destination within easy reach of West Africa.
