Delta will be the first U.S. carrier to introduce the advanced Airbus A220 to its domestic fleet as part of a broader modernization plan.
Formerly known as the C Series, the A220 is a narrow-body jet that brings many wide-body comforts to single-aisle flying. Delta began selling seats on A220-operated flights last month, offering passengers access to the aircraft’s updated cabin features and modern systems.
The airline’s inaugural A220 flights are scheduled to depart Jan. 31, 2019, from Delta’s LaGuardia hub in New York to Boston Logan International Airport and to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, a major business destination.
Additional A220 routes now on sale include:
— New York (LGA) to Boston (BOS)
— New York (LGA) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW)
— Detroit (DTW) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW)
— New York to Houston (IAH)
— Salt Lake City (SLC) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW)
— Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW)
— Houston (IAH) to Detroit (DTW) and Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP)
— Houston (IAH) to Salt Lake City (SLC)
— New York (JFK) to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW)
Delta plans to use the A220 to replace older, less-efficient aircraft across its network. The airline’s fleet renewal includes additions and substitutions involving Boeing 737-900ERs, Airbus A321s, A350s, A330-900neos and A321neos, all aimed at improving fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.
“This aircraft is the culmination of years of listening to our customers and responding with design innovations that continue to improve Delta’s domestic in-flight experience,” said Tim Mapes, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “From high-resolution seat-back entertainment screens to the widest Main Cabin seats in our fleet, the A220 will deliver an experience our customers will look forward to every time they fly.”
With its modern cabin layout, advanced avionics and efficient engines, the A220 supports Delta’s goals for a quieter, more comfortable and more fuel-efficient regional and domestic network. Passengers can expect amenities traditionally found on larger aircraft along with the operational flexibility of a single-aisle jet, making it well suited for both short-haul and longer domestic routes.
As Delta integrates the A220 across its system, travelers should watch for updated schedules and aircraft type listings when booking to confirm whether a flight will be operated by the new jet, and to take advantage of the A220’s upgraded in-flight features.
