Desert Palm Dubai Resort & Golf Club: Luxury Stays and Tee Times

Arrival/Check-in: I arrived by car after being picked up from Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), which is less than an hour away. It was close to midnight and I had a full day ahead, but check-in was quick and efficient. While waiting, I wished I had scheduled more downtime to enjoy this peaceful resort in Dubai. Before going to my room I arranged a driver for the following day, which was straightforward—I have used the same driver many times in Dubai.

Guest Quarters: The room had a distinctive layout. Immediately to the right of the entrance was an expansive bathroom with a generous shower and a deep tub. The tub sat nearly at the center and was framed by long, sheer drapes that created a tented, private atmosphere. Twin sinks were separated by a hanging vanity; the basin design tapered toward the wall in an eye-catching style.

Exiting the bathroom through a second door led into a workstation and storage hallway that doubled as the headboard wall for the king-sized bed and nightstands. A large flat-screen TV was mounted on the wall, and an alcove on the opposite side featured a sofa, chair, and small table. The room’s best feature was a small balcony with views of the polo ponies practicing—an unexpectedly charming scene. The suite used its space well and felt comfortable and thoughtfully designed.

Services/Amenities: Few things beat a refreshing drink while watching a polo team practice on the grounds—an enjoyable highlight of this property. I finished the day at the Polo Bar, watching the sun set over the fields. Breakfast was served in Epicure, which also operates as a bistro for lunch and dinner; I particularly enjoyed the homemade marmalade. Another dining option on the property is Rare, a contemporary European grill that other guests recommend; I didn’t have the chance to try it during this visit.

The resort works equally well for business travelers and guests seeking a traditional resort experience. Downtown Dubai is only about a 10-minute drive, making Desert Palm a convenient base for meetings and city activities. The estate spans roughly 150 acres and offers horseback riding and lessons—book these excursions directly if you want to ride. On-site facilities include an outdoor pool, a fitness center, four outdoor tennis courts, two indoor squash courts, and opportunities for bird-watching.

The Experience: A relaxed Arabian atmosphere that blends resort leisure with practical business conveniences.
