After an extensive renovation, Cathay Pacific Airways reopened The Pier First Class Lounge on June 19. Situated at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) near Gate 63 in the North West concourse, the lounge seats 231 guests and reflects a deliberate blend of simplicity and contemporary Asian design.
Designed by London-based Studioilse, the refreshed interior draws on modern apartment living to create a calm, refined atmosphere. Materials such as green onyx, bronze and walnut are paired with abundant plantings to bring a natural, elegant feel to the space. Thoughtful lighting and carefully chosen furnishings reinforce a quiet, residential mood throughout the lounge.
The design extends beyond aesthetics to sensory elements like music and cuisine, which follow the same restrained, comforting approach. For the first time among Cathay Pacific lounges, The Pier introduces the airline’s signature scent—subtle notes of bamboo, green tea and jasmine—designed to promote relaxation and a sense of home away from home.
Passenger wellbeing is a clear focus of the renovation. Complimentary short massages for the neck, shoulders and feet are available, providing a quick way to decompress before a flight. Private shower rooms finished in natural limestone and timber offer a restorative space to refresh, while dedicated relaxation suites feature daybeds and adjustable lighting for a restful pause between journeys.
The Pier First Class Lounge currently welcomes First Class travellers, Diamond Marco Polo Club members and Emerald oneworld members, offering them a quieter, more restorative pre-flight experience shaped by contemporary Asian sensibilities and meticulous attention to comfort.
