SAN DIEGO

San Diego, the eighth-largest city in the United States and California’s second-largest, is celebrated for its mild climate and coastal lifestyle. Home to more than 1.3 million residents, this Southern California destination offers 70 miles of shoreline, countless outdoor activities and a rich cultural scene. From beaches and parks to museums, sports and vibrant nightlife, there’s always something to enjoy. A must-see is the expansive 1,100-acre Balboa Park, which features gardens, museums and performing arts venues.

GETTING THERE

San Diego International Airport (SAN), commonly known as Lindbergh Field, is located about three miles from downtown. Public transit options include Metropolitan Transit System bus route 992, which drops passengers downtown for approximately $2.25 (exact change required). Taxis to downtown typically take about 10 minutes and cost around $15.

GETTING AROUND

San Diego is easy to navigate by car, though public transit is a practical alternative for many visitors. Single-ride bus fares are $2.25, and trolley rides are $2.50 with frequent daytime service, often departing every 15 minutes. Day passes for both bus and trolley are available for $5, and multi-day passes (two, three or four days) range from $9 to $15. Several taxi companies operate across the city; in some neighborhoods outside the Gaslamp Quarter, it’s common to call for a cab in advance.
